Overview

There is a growing concern for the improvement of health status from all stakeholders within Nepal or in foreign countries. Provision of equitable access to health service for the attainment of an acceptable level of health and better quality of life of the people by creating a more equitable distribution of resources is the primary concern of Nepal today. In many parts of the world, scientists are investing themselves in introducing public health interventions that can deal with the lifestyle. However, Nepal is facing four-fold burdens of diseases (Noncommunicable, communicable, lifestyle-related and poverty). In order to cope with this complex situation, the development of public health graduates has become inescapable. Few numbers of public health workers are working within Nepal or in other countries. In general, a BPH graduate can choose the following area to build their career:

Entry Requirement for New Students:

The entry requirement for a student in BPH will be Intermediate in Science (I.Sc.) or Higher Secondary Level (10+2 Science streams) in biology stream or Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL, Science), or Certificate in Health Sciences or equivalent as recognized by the University with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade score. Besides the basic academic requirement, an entrance examination will be held for all applicants and should secure pass marks to be eligible for admission.

Degree Requirements:

For graduation, a student should have:

  • A ‘D’ or better grade in each of the subject as specified in the curricular structure section,
  • Complete all the courses and dissertation as specified in the curricular structure section within the maximum time period mentioned in the duration of the study section, and
  • A CGPA of 2.00 or higher.

Course Admission and Registration:

Admission for courses is done at the beginning of each semester. The academic record of a student is maintained in terms of the grade for each course. The student will be registered once in the university during their course duration for which they shall have to apply for as per the rule of university.

Attendance Requirement:

A student must attend every scheduled lecture, tutorial, seminar, field visit, and practical classes. However, to accommodate for late registration, sickness and other contingencies, the attendance requirements will be a minimum of 80% of the classes actually held.

Students Evaluation:

A student’s academic performance in a course is evaluated in two methods:

  • Internally by the concerned faculty members through tutorials, lab works, home assignments, class tests, attendance, class performance, discipline, presentation, term papers and internal exams for all theory, lab, PSA, internship, seminar, and dissertation. The total weighted of internal evaluation consists of 40 percentages for each course.
  • Externally by the University through semester-end examinations. The total weighted of external evaluation consists of 60 percentages for each course.
  • A student is required to pass the internal and external examinations independently by securing a minimum of 50 percent marks. Final Examination: At the end of the semester, the final examination will be conducted by the university, according to the examination rules of the university.
